storyclashDing! Ding! Welcome to the new Storyclash site - essentially a pot to throw all my published short stories into while I crack on with the debut novel (deadline already passed but it's getting there . . . It really is), and a place to test out new writing, opening chapters and works in progress. The site hasn't been fully launched yet as I'm still gathering up old word files, drunken scrawls on receipts & ticket stubs, and aborted tales never completed but it's almost there. The name Storyclash refers to the two stories I'll be pasting up each month, ready to battle it out against each other in a gladitorial head-to-head where you can vote for the one you really feel deserves the crown. Once the site is fully up and running I'm hoping to publish the best stories and opening chapters in a new writers section as well as showcasing the work of writers already established but more of that when the site's bedded in.

To start off, I've pasted up two already published stories for this month's storyclash. The first one, The Removal, first appeared in an edited form as the opener in Bracket: An Anthology of New British Fiction published by Comma Press and the second, An Argument between Two Lovers #19 was first published in Thieves Jargon & Bored Magazine before the full version appeared in Canadian Magazine Ukula.

To read the stories, simply click here for The Removal, or here for An Argument between Two Lovers #19. Once read, you can leave comments under each story or simply vote for your favourite in the poll above. At the end of the month I'll tally up the results and the winner will receive a full trumpet fanfare and an oversized fake gold belt in the style of a 70s heavyweight title clash, I'm thinking Ali vs Forman. Then two more stories will enter the ring for the next bout.

Although the storyclash site's main intention is simply to be a shelf on which to stack all the published (and unpublished) writing I've got scattered around, I perhaps foolishly thought it would be a good way to showcase some of the novels I've ripped through in the past and deserve to be given a shout in the new and imaginatively titled 'This Month's 4 ...' section (it also gives me an excuse to go back and re-read them) ...

A little bit about
Spent a decade up in Glasgow. Had writing published whilst at university but got sidetracked. Moved back down to Manchester a few years ago and got serious about writing again. Took a Masters Degree in creative fiction. Wrote a book, got an agent interested, had work published and now I'm working on the debut novel where not a lot happens but characters seem to want to keep watching each other just in case somethng does.
